Lamentation for Christ - Albrecht Duerer

This oil on canvas image was painted by Duerer in 1500-1503. The image captures the moments just after Christ was taken down from the cross. The image is one of Albrecht's most famous because of the surprising detail it uses. It follows many of the conventions used at that time and style such as that of having figures cut out of the frame, and an almost chaotic feel.
For me the image does well in emphasizing the hastiness in which Christ was buried. Even while the women closest to Christ lean over him in mourning the apostles in the painting seem ready, with products for embalming in hand, to take him to the tomb.
The dark clouds in the back seem to communicate the displeasure and sorrow that the heavens surely felt at the Crucifixion.
